This site lists the casualties from the First and Second World War, who originated from the islands of Berneray, North Uist, Grimsay, Benbecula, South Uist, Eriskay, Barra and Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides off Western Scotland. Hence the name of this site: Berneray to Vatersay.
The names were obtained from the war memorials in Berneray, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra. Other sources include the island cemeteries and the croft histories, supplemented by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and Libraries and Archives Canada. As there is no printed Roll of Honour for the Southern Isles, it is impossible to assume that this site lists all who were actually lost in the 1914-1919 and 1939-1945 wars. No claim to accuracy on the information displayed can be made either.
The names are grouped by island, and for each island by surname and, separately, by township.
All further information is welcome, and can be left on the Guestbook.
